What is the BRCGS and why is it important?

The BRC Food Safety Certification is a program offered by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), a trade association for the UK food retail industry established in 1992. The BRC Global Food Standard, in existence since 1998, was the first food safety standard to receive recognition from the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

The BRCGS certification is a comprehensive "total quality management" certification that includes both food safety and quality requirements for food manufacturers to meet in order to be certified. The certification process involves a third-party audit against the BRCGS standards by an accredited certification body, evaluated by the BRCGS for their technical performance and customer service.

Having a BRCGS certification is beneficial for food facilities due to its international recognition and accreditation as a food safety and quality program. This certification provides customers with the assurance that the facility meets food safety requirements and reduces the number of supply chain audits, saving time and money. Additionally, the BRCGS certification supports legal compliance, providing food facilities with greater legal security in their operations.
